Year of the Horse Luxury Chocolates

Chinese New Year (also known as Lunar New Year or Spring Festival) is a time for fresh starts: family reunions, red-and-gold decorations, shared meals, and wishes for luck, health and prosperity in the year ahead. And in 2026, the celebrations welcome the Year of the Horse; a symbol often linked with energy, ambition and forward motion.

If you’re looking for Chinese New Year gifts with meaning (and serious wow-factor), our Chinese New Year chocolate boxes are designed to help you mark the moment beautifully - whether you’re celebrating with family, friends, colleagues, or treating yourself to a joyful start.

A quick history of Chinese New Year

Chinese New Year follows the traditional lunisolar calendar, beginning with a new moon that falls sometime between late January and mid-February. Festivities traditionally run for around 15 days, culminating in the Lantern Festival.

It’s also rich with symbolism. One widely shared legend describes the monster Nian, frightened away by loud noises, bright lights, and the colour red; an origin story often linked to fireworks and red decorations still seen today.

For 2026 specifically, Lunar New Year begins on 17 February 2026, and it’s the start of the Year of the Fire Horse (lasting until 5 February 2027).

What does the Year of the Horse mean?

The Chinese zodiac cycles through 12 animals, repeating within a larger 60-year pattern when combined with the five elements (wood, fire, earth, metal, water).

The Horse is commonly associated with traits like momentum, independence, perseverance and ambition - a “let’s move forward” energy that many people love to embrace as they set intentions for the year ahead.

Of course, everyone interprets zodiac symbolism differently (and that’s part of the fun). Whether you’re a full-on zodiac fan or simply here for the celebration, the Year of the Horse is a gorgeous prompt: keep going, keep growing, keep moving forward.
